Subject: I Annotate 2015: Save the date!
An invitation to the I Annotate 2015 conference.
------------------------------------------------------------
Registration is now open for I Annotate 2015, April 23-24, and we invite
you to join us for our third annual event. This is a preliminary
notice to save the date, more information will be coming in the weeks
and months to follow as we evolve the format and agenda-- specifically
regarding presentations and deadlines.
If you’d like to attend, please register now, all are welcome. Because
of limitations of the venue, we have a hard cap at 125 attendees.
Registration is available via the website at:
http://iannotate.org/
Annotation is taking off as a new collaborative activity that will take
society substantially forward. This year we’ll focus on launching
annotation at scale: What are the challenges, use cases, technologies,
standards, best practices, integrations and other elements necessary to
accelerate adoption and incorporation of annotation as a powerful new
paradigm.
The I Annotate event, with such a broad range of participants in one
place, represents a unique opportunity to work together to shape that
future. This year’s event will be more structured around fostering an
environment conducive to brainstorming, roadmapping and planning together.
We need you to roll up your sleeves and help us create this future together.
Again this year we’ll host a 2-day hack event on April 25-26, the
Saturday and Sunday immediately following the conference. If you’re
already working on an annotation project or just interested in help from
others on how to get started, please join us.
We believe web annotation is a unique new capability that has the
potential to radically transform the Web and the way we use it-- in ways
that empower each of us to extend our reach, communicating and sharing
across the globe.
We hope to see you there. Feel free to share this email with anyone you
think might be interested to attend.
Thank you!
Dan Whaley

PS: Attendees from last year may recall that the W3C hosted a workshop
before the conference to gather input on forming a charter for a new
Working Group. That work was fundamental in the successful formation of
the Web Annotation Working Group in August. This year, they’ll convene
at our venue once more, as a face-to-face meeting of the Working Group
on Wednesday, April 22nd. Per W3C protocol, participation is limited to
members. If you’d like to join, please contact the chairs:
.
PPS: We’re privileged this year to be working with Allen Gunn from the
non-profit AspirationTech in the design of this year’s event. Allen and
his team craft leading participatory events for organizations and
happenings such as MozFest, Code for America, Google Ideas, Electronic
Frontier Foundation, TOR, Benetech, and others.
